Impulse buy

During my free time on Friday I made a fleeting visit to the pretty Shropshire town of Ludlow. My stroll took me to the market, where I found a stall selling old cameras. I wasn’t planning on any more photography purchases but my willpower failed when I spotted this pretty little Voigtlander Vito B. After a little light haggling it was mine for £30, complete with a slightly dogeared user manual. Made sometime between 1954 and 1957 it’s getting on for two decades older than me and in remarkably good nick. Of course, it requires manual metering and focusing which will test my mathematical and technical skills, although at least it will never run out of battery!

For now, I’ve popped in a long-expired roll of colour film to experiment with and I’m looking forward to the challenge of using it. I think I may take it with me to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend – I may even be able to photograph some cars that are as old as the camera!

Wonderful shots of this ‘retro’ camera. I’m anxious to see the results you get. Do you develop your own film and images?
