For our final day at the Goodwood Festival of Speed I didn’t go with a specific agenda in mind. Instead I photographed whatever appealed to me, starting off in the paddock. I don’t often take many photos of modern cars but I couldn’t resist shooting a couple of Lewis Hamilton’s F1 car, along with a mix of other vehicles.
At the bottom of the paddock is a large area where the cars gather before going out for their runs up the hillclimb. Here we only had a back view of the cars so I focused on the people instead, looking out for interesting interactions and scenes.
It’s been a long while since I’ve had an opportunity to photograph any aircraft in flight, so the Red Arrows display was a must-see event. We found a good spot on top of the three storey Ford stand, from where we had uninterrupted views across the Goodwood estate. The sun was quite strong by the time they arrived at 11.30am and the heat haze spoiled quite a few of my shots too. However, I caught a couple that pleased me and I was able to find a different angle on the central sculpture too from this high vantage point.
