My home for the coming week is Bishop Burton College, our venue for the Recorder Summer School. Knowing I’d have little free time later in the day I took a stroll in the rain before breakfast. It was wonderful to experience rain again after such a long drought and I reveled in the feeling of it on my skin as I walked around the farm. The cows were busy munching their hay when I reached them and stared at me curiously – no doubt wondering what I was doing.

I walked on from there to the stables, where the horses were mostly inside, also eating breakfast. The sparrows were very vocal though, chirping at me vigorously from the roof beams. This individual hung around long enough for me to catch a photo before flying away.

Finally I reached the animal welfare part of the college, where the meerkats are housed. They were nowhere to be seen, probably still tucked up in bed. Over the road though, the marmosets were out and about, watching me with great concentration as I took my photos.

Curiosity killed the cat, they say, or should it be the cows?
