Traditionally, if you wanted to get in your school teacher’s good books the gift to present to them was an apple. That said, I was never presented with one through twenty years of teaching in schools, so perhaps it’s just an old wives’ tale! This week though I was presented with something pretty close to the mythical apple – a huge bag of plums. One of my pupils has a glut of them at the moment, from the trees around her stable, so she’s gifting them to anyone who likes plums and I certainly wasn’t going to say no. Plums bought from the supermarket are often under-ripe and quite hard but these are the exact opposite, juicy and sweet. I can see I’ll be grazing on these every time I walk past our fruit bowl!
