Crimson trumpets

At my evening class last night one of my students kindly brought me some glorious red dahlias from her garden. They’re such a wonderful shade of red that it seemed a shame not to photograph them before they fade. Getting in really close with my macro lens, they almost seem like tiny crimson trumpets.

Sumptuous colour.  Monochrome, but not as we have come to expect it.

That's amazing Helen; I shall get up close to mine now! They are really beautiful. If the frost doesn't kill them in the meantime I'll bring you some mauve ones to work your magic on.
