Since the beginning of 2018 I’ve seen an increasing number of these solitary soldiers dotted around the country. They’re part of the commemorations for the anniversary of the end of World War I, in just a few days time. One such sculpture recently appeared in our village memorial garden, so I thought I’d pop by today to take a photo before it disappears again. I’m not usually a big one for ‘colour popping’, but on this occasion it seems appropriate, to emphasise the starkness of the sculpture and the bright, scarlet poppy.
