I’ve spent very little time at Hatfield Forest beyond my working hours this winter, so it was a pleasure to simply stroll with camera today. The sun was out, making the catkins on the hornbeams sparkle like jewels.
In Gravel Pit Coppice I had some fun with my fisheye lens, bending reality, as well as some of the tree trunks. My favourite trees though are the really ancient hornbeams, with their gnarled bark. The tree featured in my final shot is one I’ve photographed many times before, although usually in such a way as to show off its split trunk. Today though, it was the base of the tree that caught my eye, its folds shown off beautifully by the warm spring sunshine.
