Bug hunt

I recently bought a new memory card and extra battery for my camera, ready for our trip to Le Mans, I wanted to give them both a spin today, just to make sure everything worked ok. I headed just up the road to the gardens at Audley End, with the intention of photographing some bugs and bees. Arriving at opening time, there was barely a breath of wind – perfect for photographing fast moving creatures on plants that tend to wave in the breeze!

I wasn’t short of subjects to photograph, especially when it came to bees. There had been a heavy dew overnight so some of the bumblebees were looking quite damp, sporting decidedly spiky hairdos! They were quietly foraging among the flowers, gradually drying out in the warm spring air.

Elsewhere I found a few other insects, who were equally docile, teaching me that early morning really is the best time to get up close and personal with these mini-beasts.
