From Brick Lane to Shoreditch

For some time now I’ve been a member of She Clicks – a group for female photographers on Facebook. From time to time group members organise meet ups around the country and today I was lucky enough to join one in London, led by Angela Nicholson.

We met at the WEX Photographic store this morning and took a leisurely stroll up Brick Lane. Some of the group tried out some ProFoto flashes en-route, but I preferred to do some natural light street photography. It took a while to find my rhythm, but gradually I found some interesting characters to photograph, sometimes in combination with the amazing street art in nearby roads.

I spent quite a while waiting for the right person to pass this new piece of street art as most people stepped out into the road to avoid photobombing my shot!

Eventually we reached Shoreditch where I spent some time experimenting with silhouettes and the differing light levels in the tunnel which leads through to Spitalfields. I normally go for a monochrome treatment with my street photography, but today colour felt right, especially when many of the colours around this part of London are so vivid.
