We made our annual trip to Westminster Abbey today for Friary Brass Band’s concert in the gardens there. Kevin was playing trombone in the concert and I went along armed with my camera to capture some photos for the band.
Through the concert I caught small groups of players in action and found spots to photograph the many soloists without getting in the way of the audience.
As a someone who regularly conducts orchetsras, I’m always interested to see what other conductors do. Chris King, the band’s conductor, is one of my favourites to photograph as he looks up at the players a lot and gives some wonderfully photogenic gestures – this makes my life so much easier!
Naturally I spent some time in street photography mode too, watching the audience as they were engrossed in the performance. I spotted some wonderful characters in the crowd and they seemed completely oblivious to me and my camera.
