Prime lens project

by Helen Hooker October. 30, 2019 415 views

It’s nearly a year since I stopped creating and posting new photos every day and, while it’s been liberating, I’ve recently felt the need to get out with my camera more. To help give me some more focus I’ve decided to embark on a new project, based around using prime lenses. If you’re interested in learning more about the background to this, please do pop over to my website as I’ve written a longer blog post here. Put simply, I’m planning to get out at least once a week, using the same single prime lens for a month, before switching to a different focal length lens the next month.

For November I’ll be using my 25mm f1.4 lens and I got started a couple of days early with a brief stroll around Audley End this afternoon. Aside from the lens I didn’t restrict myself in any other way and I found plenty of things to aim my camera at, from the garden outbuildings to the glorious autumn colours.

If you’d like to follow my project (or even join in!) I’ll be tagging all my posts with the label PrimeLensProject, both here and on Instagram.

Beautiful images, love seeing how creative you were with the one lens 🙂 I personally will be relived when I finish the 365project even though I have enjoyed it, learned a lot and have made new friends , it can be time consuming,, your idea of one lens is a great idea!

Thank you Lynn! To be honest, I’m not sure I’d have kept my 365 up for so long if I’d had to shoot specific subjects each day - it suited my better to photograph whatever I happened upon!

Love your post today! After 304 days of daily posting I‘ve been asking myself the same question: do I really want to do another 365 photo challenge next year? I love your answer: only if I get to set my own rules :-). To be free to determine the motive/subject or technique that must be liberating.
Good luck with your project! And I‘ll have to search the archives for your previous work…

Thank you Lee! I did ten years of 365 posting, albeit shooting whatever I wanted rather than to a set theme, and needed a break after that. I'm raring to go again now, although I probably won't be going back to daily posting just yet. Well done for getting so far through your 365 - most people fall long before day 304!

Thanks Abby! I've been posting, but just not as regularly. I've really missed commenting as much here on Photoblog and will try to get back into it now I have a little more free time.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m fairly confident I’ll make it all the way through 365 days if I‘ve come this far
