The warm light of winter

It’s nearly two years since I spent some time in the woodland photography hide at Rainham Marshes so it was about time I returned. I spent the whole of today there with a friend and we kept our fingers crossed that the local sparrowhawk would pop by for a bath in the reflection pool. Sadly she didn’t turn up, but we had plenty of low winter sun to create a beautiful golden backdrop for our photos of the smaller birds. While the light may have had a that warm glow, the temperatures were anything but – fortunately we’d both chosen to wear countless layers of clothing so we didn’t freeze like the water in the pool!
