We went another camera club jaunt today, this time to explore the Spitalfields area of London. Strolling the streets around Brick Lane I found myself aiming my camera mostly at street art and people, although a couple of architectural shots sneaked into my final selection too.
After lunch we went our separate ways and I went in search of some street photography around the City of London. My aim was to spend some time shooting this genre with my 75mm lens for my prime lens project. I usually go for a 15 or 25mm lens for street photography, so I figured this would make it easy to spot interesting characters from a distance. However, I found it frustratingly difficult.
I spent a while outside one of the modern glass buildings playing with the reflections. I ended up with one shot I quite like, but I had a lot of failures too – again, this might have been easier with a shorter lens.
Much as I love my 75mm lens for certain situations (it’s great for picking faces out of large groups when I’m doing event photography, for instance) I will be very glad to get back to a shorter focal length for March!
