Disturbing the peace

As I sat quietly in the garden this afternoon, enjoying the endless comings and goings of our bluetits, the peace was suddenly disturbed by a garrulous mob of starlings.

As they rowdily squabbled over the fatball feeder and the mealworms I’d cast on the ground they were mostly oblivious of me, so I crept indoors to grab my camera.

When I returned I quietly stalked across the lawn to sit on the path. Occasionally one of the birds would notice me and spark a sudden flight up onto the safety of the fence. But it only took a few seconds for their obsession with food to take over and they quickly returned to the lawn.

Eventually I crept within about six feet of this noisy gathering, taking photos all the while, until they were finally scared away by the arrival of a jackdaw.

Wonderful subjects, compositions, tight foci, bokeh & razor sharp details!

About 20 years ago, a friend called Jean and I would sit and watch, after we had done a weeks shopping, what we called 'the creche'  with a cuppa and watch a group like this on our decking... They gave us so much laughter as they all  fwould fight for their food
