There’s been lots of gardening to do today so I’ve had plenty of time to watch the birds while working.

The fledglings are out in force at the moment and I was thrilled to see the solitary survivor from our Blue Tit nest out with its parents. It’s amazing the way this youngster has developed in a few days and it was lovely to see it looking so confident and healthy.

The starlings have their work cut out at the moment, as our flock of seventeen has now been joined by nine juvenile birds. They are very vocal in their demands for food, despite being quite capable of feeding themselves. I guess yelling at Mum or Dad for grub is just easier!

I also saw Bernard, our regular blackbird, a couple of times. ON several occasions he’s been accompanied by a juvenile blackbird – presumably one of his offspring. Today she was quite confident being alone in my company and posed obligingly on the fence for a photo.
