All of our favourite events at Goodwood have been cancelled this year, thanks to Covid-19, which has been incredibly frustrating. By way of compensation, the team at Goodwood are putting on an event behind closed doors next weekend called SpeedWeek. It’ll include all our favourite races and will be streamed to watch online. Over the last few weeks there has been a series of testing days at Goodwood which have been open to anyone wanting to watch so today Kevin and I made the journey south to see the final one.
I went intending to focus my attentions around the paddock rather than on track, although I did have come away with one moderately successful action shot. Most of the time I walked around the paddocks, looking for shapes and details, as well as keeping an eye out for human interest too.
I ended up with a pleasing series of images of drivers and mechanics preparing for their track time. While I could get into the area around the pits I couldn’t get out into the pitlane itself. To catch images either at ground level or from a driver’s perspective I therefore had to get creative. Sometimes I was able to sit on the ground and reach over the rope with my camera, while at other times I sat on the barrier and leant over the edge. It certainly pays to be flexible when you’re shooting motorsport!
