I used to be a cyclist, and I still have a lot of my old kit hanging in the closet. In this shot I'm trying to highlight the colors by panning at a slow shutter speed.

No, not cropped at all. I just set my shutter speed really slow (1/4 sec, I think), and panned up and down in continuous shooting mode. For the shot I chose, I held the camera at an angle to get the diagonal lines.
