The cost of Covid 19 is not always to the human body but also to many small businesses. There are many empty shops in my neighbourhood and more business failures to come.
It was a very grey day today and I certainly was not feeling photographically inspired so I decided to dig out my vintage Russian 58mm lens and see what we could see. We headed over to the Bytowne Cinema which has provided an eclectic mix of movies for Ottawa audiences since 1988 and is now closing in two weeks, another victim of the pandemic.
After that we went by Trudel Hardware, a fixture in the Market for many years; it will be closing next week, leaving a large residential area without a hardware store.
Along the way we spotted some of the construction on a number of new highrise condo buildings, not sure how they are going to fill them.
Vintage lens, vintage theatre...
This used to be a pretty passthrough from Rideau Street to George Street but about three years ago the city decided there were too many homeless hanging about and locked the gates. Now look at it!
