The Rideau River is frozen and as there were trucks on the ice I figured I was safe in walking out on the river. The piers of the now-disappeared railway bridge have been calling to me for months but getting an image from the shore has always been disappointing. Being out on the river was much more satisfactory.
My next stop was the Rideau Falls which seems to have become my favourite photo spot this year. The last time I stopped by the machinery for the water control was completely coated in ice but in the stronger sun that ice is gone. I found there was another reason also as the falls are almost completely frozen into a curtain of ice and are consequently not throwing spray up to coat the railings and machinery. The wall of ice is stunning.
