Beautiful weather this past weekend so I wandered a bit around downtown. My first stop was at Parliament Hill as I have wanted a decent shot of the West Block which is the new temporary home of the Chamber of the House of Commons.

The Centre Block is under intensive upgrading for the next 15 - 20 years and is blocked off, thus denying tourists the usual iconic shot of Parliament with the Centennial Flame.

Is this the new iconic shot for the next 20 years? The new temporary Chamber has been dropped into the inner quadrangle of the West Block. It is very cleverly designed to be lifted out when the Centre Block is completed, allowing the West Block to resume its original heritage construction.
I cannot decide if I prefer the colour to the bw - thoughts?

After Parliament Hill I wandered down Metcalfe Street past the Ottawa Public Library nestled in its cocoon of highrise buildings.

Then over to the canal...

The Corktown Bridge is festooned with padlocks - manufacturers of padlocks must love the world-wide fetish for adorning iron railings with 'love' padlocks!

I love the blue skies of #2. They add a vibrant contrast to the grey stone.
