Secrets & hopes

At The National Portrait Gallery in London, I happened upon this small intimate exhibition called Chasing Mirrors: Portraits of the Unseen.

It was a Three-year project from 2009 - 2011, working with young people and families from Arabic-speaking communities in the London Boroughs of Barnet, Brent and Ealing.

All the hanging parts of this installation were some personal item, poem, photo belonging to these young people that were wrapped in small bits of beautiful cloth, Tied with colourful bits of string and suspended by nylon line between 2 circular mirrors, one on the floor - the other on the ceiling. All the personal items had numbers
and each item had a brief description on the floor and a further explanation on a wall nearby.

I was profoundly moved by these personal items, each describing attachment & loss, hopes, humour.

Hmmmm!
