The Arum Lily.
A symbol of purity
and quiet elegance.
Also known in Europe and America as a Calla lily, it is neither an arum (the genus Arum), nor a lily ( genus Lilium). It is called that however in the place of its origin (South Africa) and is associated with the lily as a symbol of purity. The plant is used as food, medicinally and of course decoratively. It grows wild in the area in which I live and when the rains have been good whole fields and all the river courses are covered with white flowers - quite breathtaking.
(For anyone who wants to know, the botanical name is Zantedeschia).
