140/365 ~ Lensbaby Chronicles ~ Day 3

by Heidi Egerman May. 20, 2018 360 views

I have this desire to get up close and personal so I need to step back. I keep forgetting that this is a 50mm lens. I think the reason I'm finding it difficult to focus is because I'm too close to my subject. Lensbaby offers a Macro Converter or a 46mm Macro Filter Kit. I may consider this down the road, but I still have a lot to learn. I read that the macro filters are easy to pop on and off and might be more versatile. Before I buy anything else I may try using an extension tube or two. Since I'm also considering a macro lens down the road I want to be sure I'm going to get the results that I expect. I will probably want a more versatile lens than this Lensbaby Sweet 50.

The two images below were cropped for better composition. I had pretty good morning overcast light and shot these at f5.6 early this morning.

I think I could have gotten this shot with my 50mm prime lens so I'll do some experimenting. Below is the full image, before cropping.

Hi, interesting to follow your experience. When I got my Lensbaby I setup a still life composition in my mini studio, only using the light from a window. In that way I had completely control over a lot of elements and could concentrate on the lens. Changing focus area / f-stop / distance to the focus point and so on and then compare the different results.

Geert,
After day three and a bit more study I had decided to do just that. I’m not sure why I didn’t think about it before since I often shoot stills in my cube. I think I just wanted to be outside after our long winter. Thanks so much for your comment. Stay tuned.

Hilarious! I can’t stop 😂 laughing. That would be much more interesting to read.  ...and the pictures I can’t even imagine.
