The dahlias are a bit slower to bloom but should come on strong in the next few weeks. I am not sure of the variety of this dahlia. It doesn't look like the flower I marked when I planted it. I looks similar to a Creme De Cassis, but with a little more yellow.
The earwigs are particularly bad this year. They like the dahlias and the zinnias, but seemed to leave this particular dahlia alone. I'm using a product called Sluggo Plus which is working pretty well. Controlling the aphids are another constant battle in the heat. They are pretty easy to control, but you have to stay on top of them.
It has been incredibly hot and dry here and I've been busy keeping everything watered. I thoroughly enjoy my early morning in the garden which I'm sharing with my Camino training schedule with hikes in the local foothills. Today's total: over 10 miles (16KM). I'm falling into bed tonight. It has been a long rewarding day.
