323/365 ~ Not too late . . .

by Heidi Egerman November. 20, 2018 260 views

Today I planted 75 cloves of garlic, but before these cloves went into the ground I decided to set up a quick still life. We are expecting rain in the next few days so it is just in time and not too late. I’ll be harvesting garlic around the 4th of July.

I had no idea we should plant garlic NOW. In Fall/Winter weather.
I'm not able to fix the garden at the moment... do you think it would work in a long pot? Or they need to be planted very deep?
Thanks in advance blue heart

Yes, you can plant them in a long pot about 2-3” deep and 5-6” apart. You can also plant in the spring, but I get a better crop when I plant in the fall. For some reason they like a long cold winter.

Great shot. Garlic is one thing I have not tried growing yet but it is on the list of things to grow before I die .

Thank Russell
Do it - sooner versus later! It is so easy to grow and such a rewarding crop. Also makes great gifts. Once you buy your first bulbs of seed garlic you never have to buy them again. You just take some of your best bulbs to use the next year. It is so good for you too!

love the composition and drama. My garlic went in a couple of weeks ago, little shoots just peeping up now, oh, and the japanese onions, yum.

I’ll have to try Japanese onions. I’m a bit late planting my garlic. Freezing temperatures are already here although the ground is not yet frozen. I doubt I’ll see green shoots until Spring.

I'm using garlic the Hungarian way: straight out of a tube smile But I do grow peppers and cherry tomatoes
