From the garden today...Rhubarb Seed Pods

by Heidi Egerman April. 24, 2019 240 views

I cut the seed pods when I see them so the plant doesn’t think it is finished for the season. If you leave them to flower they will divert energy away from the production of edible stalks. I do love the texture and character of these pods. There are few things like them.

Me I love the b/w image. Don`t think I`ve seen my rhubarb flower. May be to do with how wet it is here. Angelica looks a little like this when it`s in bud.

#2 and #3 are my favorite two. Are the seed pods edible and if so how would they be used?

Love the texture and colors of #1 &#3. I have never seen the pods before, they look like a mixture of  cauliflower and broccoli.

Nice shots, Heidi. Does the flower actually open when you put it in a vase ?

Thank you Bjorn. It won’t open once cut. I’ve let them flower on the plant before. They are quite pretty.
