Going back in time

Have you ever read the book 'Timeline' written by Michael Crichton?

Wikipedia : 'Timeline is a science fiction novel by Michael Crichton that was published in November 1999. It tells the story of a group of history students who travel to 14th-century France to rescue their professor. The book follows in Crichton's long history of combining technical details and action in his books, addressing quantum and multiverse theory.'

I loved this book, because I love the idea to travel into another century by a time-machine.

Sometimes I'm asking myself : If I had the chance to go back to the medieval period by a time-machine, would I ?

YES.................BUT................. - because I know, the middle ages in Europe were a damn violant and bloody period, with extremely bad medical health care, I wouldn't go without a : 'Beam me up Scotty' - opportunity. (In my case a 'beam me back'- opportunity). :-)

Okay, yesterday I had the chance to step into another century without any danger. There was a medieval age market in Braunfels, an one hour drive from my home.

Braunfels is a pretty little town in the county Hessen, District Limburg-Weilburg, first mentioned in 1246, with an impressive castle, which is build on a crest of a basalt rock. The old town is showing an ensemble of half-timbered buildings.

The spectaculum was located in the spa gardens of the town. A lot of traders were selling their handicrafts,

and a lot of sales-stands offered delicacies and of cause a lot of Met was consumed. (Better to stay away from it, if you arrived by car !)

I made so many photos from this whole event, maybe I will show single ones in some other postings. I had a great day in the medieval period and I think everybody who had been there yesterday, enjoyed it as much as I did.

Just a word to mention....if you would like a portrait painting or a caricature painting, of yourself, or a loved one...that is my speciality and it is no charge of any kind.

These were so fun to scroll through!!!!   I marked my absolute favorites. I can't believe horses run through fire?!

Thanks a lot for your comment and fav's, Tawnya. Glad you liked it. blush
And yes, the horses ran through the fire. I was absolutely astonished, because I know about their large fear about fire. Before that excercise, they spattered the legs and bodies of the horses with water.
And through the whole tournament I noticed a great relationsship and trust between the horses and their riders.
And not only the horses were forced to run through the fire, at the end, also all the human helpers (knaves) of the tournament were running/jumping through it. smile
In my eyes they showed the horses their respect with this action. It was really a great show !

Hi Heike, thanks for sharing this nice set ! It's clear you had a good time, there's a lot of positive energy coming from your pictures !
If I may, and looking at the nice gear you have (24-70 f2.8 and 300 f4), you could probably use your lenses more often at full aperture with little loss of quality to even more blur the background as you're mainly taking individual characters. I don't remember who said that the "most important in a picture is not the subject, it's the background!", and very often it's true. It's very hard to work in such events, crowded with people, that's why sometimes it's good to find a location with a nice background (like in the #19) and wait for something to happen!
Well done, and thanks again !

Thanks a lot for your comment, Joe ! This timber frame buildings are very common here in this region. And I noticed in the last years, a lot of new houses are again build in this old style. (But better isolated.) smile

Stunning series! Bravo!
I grew up in San Antonio, Texas.
We have a town, 25 miles away, named New Braunfels, Texas.
It's a German settlement, established back in the early 1800's....
Cool place!
