Scenic Views in South Tyrol

by Heike July. 21, 2018 1640 views

This are some photos from South Tyrol (Italy). Some of them really look like this terrible photo wallpapers in the 80's. :-) But honestly, it really looks like that in reality... Sometimes I was just sitting there, staring at this beautiful panorama and thinking : 'Boah is that cheesy' - and I loved it!!

Thank you Bert! I see, you have been there. Isn't it a fantastic landscape in Tyrol? I would always go again. No I have to correct me, not during winter time, even so it also must look fantastic but I'm not a winter type. If I could, I would hibernate from nov. to apr. smile

I didn't have a chance to go last summer -- winter holidays are not for me either.
I have been there during early fall, which is just a little colder, and the sun is down quite early.
Late spring looks better, I suppose ...
I 'work' during the winter months, and then it feels like life doesn't move for 6 months ...

Yes, isn't it ? And when it's really hot in the valley, you can take a cable car up to the mountains, where it's always some degrees cooler. That's what we did in #23 to #26smile   Thanks Jane !

Awesome shots Heike! Except some of the areas you climb to capture the shots are way to high for me. Happy to have seen them through your eyes. grinning

Thanks Camellia. Fortunately I have no problem with height. Ok, what I would never do is, to climb in Norway on the Kjerag for a photo (see Rachels post from last year : https://www.photoblog.com/rkydd/2017/10/09/151365/) , but as long as I have solid ground under my feet and around me, I don't feel afraid. smile

All amazing pictures! Though I have never been to Tyrol or even any where close, I feel like I'm sitting at the top of a mountain. Actually the widest angle that I ever tried was just 21mm, Zeiss, which seldom satisfied me due to their distorsions but your 16mm shots do work in every perspect. They really brought me to the Tyrols. I think you must add an advice, "View in full screen mode". smile
As I said I'm not a big fan of wide angles but your pictures with 16mm are whispering to me "Get one, get one..." very strong desire is coming from deep inside of me... I'm thinking of a wide angle prime lens rather than a zoom.
By the way #17 is my favorite (if you push me to choose one) and #8 reminds me of those exciting moments of Giro d'Italia.
I think I will come to this page on and on to feel myself in Tyrol.
Many thank. smile

Thank you Ho ! I know this desire, you described. smile 2 Years ago  I spend my holidays in austria, Region Zell, surrounded by impressive mountains. The photos were ok, but I wasn't 100% satisfied. That was the moment, when I heard this whispering 'You need a wide-angle lens....'  And than I started saving money. Every month a certain amount. So this year I was able to buy the Canon 16-35mm f4 L. Canon has also a f 2.8 L, but that is much more expensive and the reviews aren't really better, than the ones from the f4. I have to say, the lens fullfilled my expectations. I havn't made architecture pics with it until now, but in the landscape pictures I nearly can't see any distorsions. I really do not regret, that I bought it. And I'm sure, since you already hear the whispering, in a while you also have a wide-angle. smiley

Very impressive set, Heike. I always like looking at mountain pictures and the South Tyrols are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. (photos 14 and 15 are my favourites)

Thank you very much, Greg. I'm always in awe, when I see mountains. I also love the sea, especially when it's rough, but if somebody would ask me, what I prefer more, I would prefer the mountains. The very very best would be, both nearby.  smile

Great photos...are the winter, and summer photos of the same place?

1 year, 2 months ago Edited
Heike Replied to Sydney Solomon 1 year, 2 months ago

Thank you Sydney! The first 8 photos are all done at the same day on the summit of Sass Pordoi.
I've been there this year beginning of june. The summit is on 2950 m (9678 feet) and up there was still
a lot of snow. All together I've been 2 weeks in that region, we rented a holiday appartment near
Meran and made daily excursions by car, combined with easy trekking tours. (I'm not a mountaineer.)
I wish I could have stayed longer. The landscape is really beautiful and stunning !

I love the village of Santa Maddalena, Valley,Dlomiles,Alto Adige, and the wine Santa Maddalena, DOC: medium bodied and fragrant. And I love your beautiful landscapes.

Thanks John. Yes, they have great wine in that region around Bolzano. I made a wine-hiking-tour through the vineyards at Kurtatsch. It was very nice and very informative.

Fototapete! joy

I don't care if they are cheesy or not. They are stunningly beautiful landscapes Heike. Congratulations

Thank you, Antonio. I don't care either, but sometimes this landscapes seems to be so unreal.  And if there are clouds in the sky, the view changes every minute. It's simply overwhelming.  grinning
