November mist

by Heike November. 18, 2019 1130 views

In German the word 'Mist' means manure/compost - or we often use it when we curse, instead of the word 'shit' - it's a little less vulgar. Although I'm not a huge fan of the november, the title of this post is meant in English. I could have used the word fog instead - but somehow this equivocation let me grin. When I woke up on saturday morning and watched out of the window, I thought "Mist" - (German meaning) ...and crawled back into bed. "It's weekend, I don't get up at 8:00 am on a saturday", my inner voice said. "But there is fog outside! It's saturday. Your chance to make fog photos."- I heard my camera whisper. "There will be other misty days in my life" my inner voice answered. My cam: "But during the week you have to work. Days are short now, you leave when it's dark, you come back home when it's dark. You never know when the next foggy day will be on a weekend." "Hmpf" ...5 minutes later I stood under the shower...

Slowly the sun was comming out

Slowly the sun was comming out

Above photo I made around 1.00 pm. Still nice, but the misty magic was gone. The rest of the day was sunny. Next day, on sunday, there was no need to get up early, a typical gray and rainy november day.
The below "photo" is what I call : "Uncontrolled use of wrong settings" - it's not edited...Somehow I like it. 😁

I used to have less requests from customers after October but it was not the same this year. Literally I was buried with burden of works to do for couple of months.
Scenery in mist or fog is so romantic. It gives us natural filter. Your pictures in this post are so lovely indeed. It worth waking up early in the morning. I do envy you where you live as well. I want to smell and see those of rural area as I used to do when I was young. I'm thinking of finding or building a new house in a small county in couple of years to come. City does not fit me at all. Wish me a luck. smile

I just love these types of shots, No.2 is my favorite but then all would be great situations to be in either in  admiring or walking through your woods.  Have a great day and keep up the excellent work.

This is a lovely post, Heike. You start off with a bang - the scene in #1 is very moody but the addition of the people in #2 adds impact and a sense of peace. I really like #4. Farmers don't seem to know what time it is, they just get up and go to work when it gets light enough. The tractor resembles some monster appearing from the fog in a horror movie. But my favourite is #14. What a feeling of place that you've captured - it's just excellent! Thanks for sharing your experience.

Thank you very much Greg! At least. it was good to get up that morning. When I later watched the photos on my notebook, I was really satisfied with most of them. Of course I edited several of them, but this time more to work out and accentuate the mood, instead of changing the complete appearance - what I often do very extremely. smile The tractor I heard, before I saw it comming. The fog was dampen the noise extremely and it was actually a bit eerie when it drew near. #14 is also one of my fav's. Usually I try to avoid to have transmission towers on my photos, but here I was sure it would complete this photo. I think about printing it. Only a smaller format 20x30 cm, just to see the effect on a print. Thanks for your comment!

Hahaha! "Uncontrolled use of setting!" I like that saying and I think I am going to use it whenever I go through that mood of just push this button and that button until you find something you like.

I am so glad you listen to your inner self and got up when you did. You have some magnificent photos. I can't really say I like one over the other because each has their own unique quality #24 the colors and brilliant and the composition just right!.#21 & 17 again the perspective you took is very eye appealing. #16's shade of monochrome really make me feel the cold winters day. Anyway I scrolled up and down several times and I could make a comment about the beauty of each, but I must say there is one that really stands out to for  and that is #17. The fog on top and the green/brown coloring at the bottom and then the bird flying. The combination of all these components is fantastic. That is one I would print.

Thanks a lot for your motivating comment, Camellia! Feel free to use the 'uncontrolled use' in future. smileAt least it was good to get up, but for me it's always a fight, because one my of greatest hobbies is sleeping. #17 - the trees in the middle catched my eye, because they look like a square.

Thanks you, Peter. Yeah, problem is, that the mist usually disappears around noon. Otherwise I would have stayed longer in my warm bed. smile

There were more people waking up early smile Fortunately for us you were not lazy. Amazing "Mist" pictures my friend

Thank you Antonio. Yes, this passionate sportsmen/women are always up early. I met a few Jogger and cyclists, and of course the people with dogs. I'm not sure whether dogs really want to get up early, or whether the owners think, they want to. Near by is a large riding stable, what explaines the high number of riders in that region. And farmers never sleep, I suspect...No job for me...smile
