Going out late at night, in the middle of nowhere, capturing the aurora borealis, is one of my favorite things to do! ūüíē

Well done, Helen! Can you tell me how long the exposures took?
Also, kinda curious how you focused...just set the camera focus for infinity, or did you focus on the trees or something?

Hi Joe, These exposures were 30 seconds at ISO 1600, f2.8, 20mm. ¬†Yes, I focused to infinity and did a few test shots to check for clarity. The lens that I use has to be focused to infinity and then just moved a bit off of it to achieve clarity. Sometimes I focus on a light in the distance or even a star and zoom in on my viewfinder to see if the stars or the light is sharp. ¬†Exposure time depends on how active the auroras are - I've shot from 8 -30 seconds (from very active to weak). And doing all this in the dark is really interesting. Lol! Practicing with various settings really helps. ¬†Hope this helps! ūüėä
