Today, my friends told me there was an event at school at night where Shirley King of the Sacramento Bee and founder of Gramma's Hugs (an organization whose purpose is to provide blankets to needy children) was teaching students how to crochet. I had never crocheted before in my life, so it thought it would be a fascinating experience, so I decided to attend. At first, getting the yarn through the stick was quite difficult, but through Shirley's and Jenny's help, I was able to sorta get the hang of it. I felt like my hands had just written a very long essay, though. I was gripping everything so tightly, but as the session went on, my hands began to relax more. We learned how to do this double crochet thing, which allows us to start making a blanket. Jenny and I are planning to finish our blankets during various crocheting parties and give them away to orphaned children in Africa. Hopefully I can remember what I learned and finish the blanket as soon as possible, so I can make scarves, mittens, socks, and more cool stuff!
