Our First Anniversary!

Since this trip is celebrating our first anniversary, I guess it would be appropriate to write something about it!

Christine Mezzatesta and Gene Hynson were married on May 30th, 2016.

We met working at a Chick-fil-A in Peachtree City, GA in late 2012. We started dating in June of 2013 after Christine graduated from high school. Here is a picture of us at our first swing dance!

Swing dancing became an instant theme in our relationship. You'll see evidence of that as this post continues.

After an incredible summer, Gene began attending Georgia Tech while Christine attended Kennesaw State University. This made the relationship a little bit tougher since the drive between our schools was about a half hour (without traffic). We now had to make a physical effort to visit each other. Since we were broke college students, I remember times when we couldn't even afford to fill up either of our cars with gas to make the drive.

One solution we found to this was through a college ministry called The Living Room put on by Buckhead Church. The program met in the buckhead area of Atlanta and offered a shuttle service from Georgia Tech and KSU to their church. Christine and I took advantage of this service on a weekly basis! The program was lively, food was fantastic, and of course we couldn't say no to a free ride!

As I mentioned before, swing dancing was always a favorite of ours. The picture above was an outfit Christine and I would wear to a themed dance. We often attended the Georgia Tech swing dances where hundreds of people would come and dance to the music of a live band performing in a fancy ballroom. Quite the experience!

Well months turned into years and eventually we started getting more serious in our relationship. We decided that I needed to graduate from college first before we could get married, but that couldn't stop us from being engaged! So after speaking with Christine's father, I surprised Christine during one of our typical swing dances with a public proposal! I had previously arranged for the DJ to play Fly Me To The Moon by Sinatra and I snuck the ring out at the last part of the song! One glance at this picture and I think you'll agree that I nailed the surprise!

So of course she said yes and we began making preparations for the wedding. Here is one of our official engagement pictures:

Just over a year later, we were married in south Georgia! Right after that we moved to Charleston, South Carolina.

Wedding Day!

Since our wedding day, Christine and I have been on a non-stop adventure. After a summer in Charleston, we spent 5 months in the north Georgia mountains while Christine finished her degree (and I worked virtually for Boeing). After that we moved back to Charleston and Christine started working at a health clinic called Health First as I continue at Boeing. I've started my graduate degree online from Georgia Tech, and we have become heavily involved at a local church called Awaken.

God has blessed us beyond belief and we cannot wait to see what chapter unfolds next.

Here's to one lap around the sun and many more to come! (:
