Day 64: Africa is Calling

I am leaving for a trip to southern Africa in about three weeks where we will begin building what we are told will be the first orphanages in Zambia. While I like…wish…plan to return to Africa each year, for some reason I began tonight to long to be back in Africa…now. As a result, I had to take a few photos of some of the pieces of Africa that we have been fortunate enough to bring back to the States.

MALI, WEST AFRICA
For the past 3 years my wife, oldest son and I have traveled deep into “the bush”, into a remote village in West Africa to teach the villagers about Jesus Christ. Experiences that I will never forget.

On my first trip out to the village, in less than 24 hours I met a man named Isa (pronounced ēsa). For whatever reason, Isa singled me out of our small group of men, took me with him and began showing me how to work…Africa style. With a huge language barrier we were literally unable to communicate with words. However, over the next few hours and days something strange took place…we bonded brother-to-brother and became very close friends. God, help me to get back to my friend Isa Fomba soon.

A carving on the front of our “chief's chair”

A cotton spindle used to make thread.

One of the stools from the village that we was given to us from one of our new friends.

Mali cloth…or Bogolan cloth. If you are ever in Segou, Mali, Africa go to the Bogolan factory. Amazing.

Scott, I'm excited for you to get back where your heart is! I love all the pieces that I know are so dear to you. I'm glad you shared them with us - so beautifully, I must say - and I'm anxious to see your photos from the trip later. (I posted our wheelchair delivery trip to Mexico today!) God's care on your preparations and journey, my friend.
