Kings Cliffe Airfield

Kings Cliffe airfield is in Northants and I went for a look at the remains. The airfield originally opened in 1941 as a satellite to Wittering and was initially home to 133 Eagle Squadron but by 1943 had passed in to USAAF hands and became home to the 56th and then the 20th Fighter Group which stayed until after the end of the war. The airfield was sold off back to agricultural use in 1959 but several old buildings are still in use and it is possible to find a number of shelters around the old dispersal areas.
