Slightly off topic for me but mildly interesting (possibly) is this steel hulled schooner currently on the maintenance slipway in Ramsgate harbour. Now named Te Vega this two masted schooner was launched as Etak from a shipyard in Kiel in 1930 in the ownership of an American busuinessman. By 1942, under new ownership, it was offered to the US Coast Guard and then taken on by the US Navy being placed in service from August of that year as USS Juniata.
The schooner was based in San Francisco and, with other ships, patrolled a route to Hawaii until going out of service on 1st January 1945. She has had a number of owners since, been fitted with new masts following storm damage off Tahiti and was restored to luxury yacht status in the early 1990's. Current works are expected to take a couple of weeks. I'll have to keep tabs on it!
