Nonny on Guard Duty

Last night as I stood here
Delighting in my Boy
Delighting in Nonny

A sadness for Lynette arrived
Who can no longer stand
And delight over her sleeping children

Who is no longer a mother
Who won't be a grandmother now

Her children are grown
More or less
Not that that means much
I've thought of them all week
And of her Husband left alone
Not a Husband anymore

But last night
As I stood here
I thought of her.

A moving post - so much captured in those words - that prickling feeling at the back of my eyes - for the beauty of the simple pleasure of watching a child sleep (always a child)...for the fragility
