Every year after Christmas, we cut the top third off of our Christmas tree and set it up outside our living room window on our deck. We hang all sorts of bird goodies up there such as seed balls, peanutbuttered pine cones, orange halves, suet, etc. The birds LOVE it - especially on snowy days. (Admittedly, I took this photo yesterday during our winter storm, but it was so perfect for today...). Other animals have been known to enjoy the goodies as well, such as the expected squirrel and the quite unexpected possum, who consumed all the orange halves in their entirely. And we love to watch them all. For this shot, I threw on my Tamron 18-250 zoom lens, sat on my coffee table and zoomed right in on the tree. There are two juncos looking longingly at the female hairy woodpecker on that suet. (Can you spot them all?) I love where I live!
