a cherished treasure

a cherished treasure

I'm not fancy. My log house is not fancy. But I think this beautiful rocking chair is pretty fancy. Oddly enough, though, it looks at home at whatever home I've had it in over the years. I don't care too much about material things, but this I do. It's definitely one of my most cherished possessions. This chair belonged to my maternal great-grandfather - a man I never met. The story goes that he was a rather corpulent man and couldn't fit in many chairs, so this chair was custom made for him. I've had it for many many years, and it is super comfy. I have nursed and rocked both my babies in this chair and read many a story and sung many a song to my granddaughters here as well. And so has my 6'3" husband - very comfortably. (Well, not the nursing part...) If furniture could be compared to food, this chair looks like a wonderful Chateaubriand - an extravagant, decadently prepared and expensive cut of beef, i.e. fancy! But it's really macaroni and cheese. Oh, and that's a pretty fancy little vanity next to the chair as well. Unfancy me also loves and owns that because it was my mother's when she was a girl. It's definitely a lobster bisque.
