Today??s post isn??t about photography. Today??s post is about wallowing in self pity. Today my football team, Charlton Athletic, were relegated. This means that next season they will start in the third tier of English football (the laughingly called Coca Cola Div 1). It will be the first time since 1981 that they have been as low.
Today wasn??t as bad as it might have been, we didn??t actually lose and we have known for a long time that this day was coming, as we are undoubtedly the worst team in the division. Over the next few weeks many more teams will be relegated from their respective divisions. For some of them the drop may be harder to take, for they have a hope that they may still stay up. Hope, when it comes to nothing, is what really leads to despair. Fortunately we never had that, so we started coming to terms with this weeks ago.
The only other positive is that the amount of pleasure that can be taken when we are successful again will be so much more for having been through the tough times. Like so many things in life, you only get out what you put in. That is why it is always better to be a genuine supporter of a struggling club, than to be an armchair follower of a Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool (etc. etc.) any day.
For anyone who has waded through all this, apologies for the picture quailty. I only had my compact with me and it was only towards the end of the match that I realised there was no-way I could make a post about anything else today, so it was all rather on the hoof.
