This post gets its title from both the fact that Southend Pier [southend.gov.uk] is the longest pleasure pier in the world and because this is the longest I have had a subject in mind without doing a post on it. When I first started my Project 365, I knew that I would make this post but I didn't want to do it to early. It was inevitable I'd do a set on it as this is without a doubt the most famous and prominent landmark in our town. But I thought I'd leave it until a day when I was desparate for an idea. Fortunately, that day has yet to come, but I think by now I can afford to make this post anyway.

It's so long you can see the curvature of the Earth. Well, ok not really; it's so long you can see the barrel distortion in my lens.

One of the pier trains.

The point at the middle of the pier where the trains cross.

A tern. I think it's a common one.

Turnstones and guano. Nice!

A noisy turnstone.

All this scratchin's making me itch.

A gull (black headed?) with the train in the background.

The pier head station.

The life boat station.

I think that was the old lifeboat ramp.

Most of the seats are donated. Some have flowers on them.

The view from the end, looking across the Thames towards Kent.

Yes, that is some long pier! Being from the middle of a continent I don't know much about sea things, but I think it would be fun to walk all the way to the end...and how far is that? Maybe that's why I like #2 - feel like I can step right in and start walking.
