And Then She Flew Away

Buff Tailed Humble Bee, Bombus terrestris.

When I came downstairs this morning Lin's first words to me were “don't shut the window”. There, in the sill was a little bee; not moving.

I picked it up and held it for a while. It wasn't moving much but kept throwing funny shapes with its legs. It made no attempts to get away but didn't look very comfortable. After about 15-20 minutes I decided that I couldn't walk around all day with a bee on my finger all day so I tried to set her down. As I did she flew off. I saw that left on my hand were some long strings of what looked like spider's webs. My guess is that she'd got herself tangled in an old cobweb and needed a bit of time to clean it off.

Lovely, sometimes they can run out of puff...so to speak, bit of sugar in water can fill their tanks again. :-))
