Around Ramsey By Boat

Other boats.

The Bitches (yes, that is what is says on the map).

Grey seals.

There's nothing like a good scratch.

Can you see the face in the rock?

Plastic Puffins: In the past real puffins lived on the island, but they left recently because rats were eating their eggs. The rats have now been dealt with and the RSPB are trying to lure the puffins back with these plastic decoys. I'm told that this year six puffins returned. Hopefully sometime soon, they'll get a whole colony back.

The eyes have it.

Young kittiwake (left) being fed. The red on the adults bill is actually inside its mouth and is there to encourage the youngsters to take food. Not that they looked as if they needed much encouragement.

Young kittiwake sitting amongst the guano.

Wow, that was quite an adventure... Great idea with the puffins, lets hope the real ones are easily fooled.. I love the rock face... and the eyes...

I am just wondering if they put that many plastic puffins out, would the real ones not think the place is overcrowded as it is?

Don't see many land or seascapes from you, Jon....but this post tells me you need to do more! Beautiful!!!! The waves and rocks in #s 2 and 9 bring a bit of excitement....and the animal shots (real and otherwise) are fantastic!

What a fantastic photo opportunity and you made full use of it. I love the concept of plastic puffins! I can't help feeling the real ones must have felt a bit let down when they discovered they weren't real though.

What a great set of shots, Jon! No need to wonder why they call #2 the bitches! The plastic puffins cracked me up... we once took a boat to the Isle of Lundy only to discover the puffins were far out to see by that time of year (funny that they 'neglected' to mention that before getting us on the boat... GRrrr!). #9 looks fairly treacherous!! 11 & 12 are an awesome location! And those are some ugly "whatevers" in that last photo! 8^)
