We all have heard the saying "a dog is a man's best friend" and that usually refers to a dog and his owner. As you can see in the photo that is my best friend. Her name is Adi which is of Hebrew origin meaning jewels or jewels on a crown; I might have named her after me. But she is such an amazing dog and she really is my best friend even though we can't have a conversation she still understands me. She has been with me when I have hurt myself and she was concerned and didn’t leave my side. She has been with me in my darkest times when I am not doing ok emotionally, mentally, and spiritually or when I am crying I want some comfort. She has been with me in some of the happiest times too playing with the family, chasing after flies, or even going on a road trip. She is my physical best friend but I have someone who is my best friend since the day I was born-again and his name is Jesus. He has been around me every day since I gave my life to him 5 years ago and he has always comforted me and he has always brought me joy. I have relied on Him more than anyone in my life but there have been times where I have given up on him but he has never given up on me and he won't ever give up on me. He is always by my side pushing me forward and reminding me to continue to have faith and trust in him. It reminds me of Proverbs 18:24 which says, "One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Now that could mean your best friend in the physical but for me, it means that every friend I have in my life will in one way or another will mess up or leave but that one friend who is loyal no matter what is Jesus. He is always by our side and he won't ever leave our side. I've had a conversation with someone who asked me "how can you call him your best friend if you have never seen him or talked to him?" My response was "I call him my best friend because I see him every day in my daily life with the creation around me and I talk to him through prayers, worship, and His word." It has taken time for me personally to completely trust Jesus and his ways because I am stubborn and I want to do everything in my own strength but I have learned to let that go and trust Him one hundred percent. Sometimes you have to find people in your life who are working with you and not against you. Jesus is always working with you and never against you. So are you surrounding yourself with good company (1 Corinthians 15:33) or with bad company? Who is your best friend?
Yours truly, Jewels
