Embracing Diversity

I came upon these 4 souls as a I rounded the bend at a small frozen pond. There they were! No other ducks were to be found.

Maybe these creatures were abandoned by the rest because they were different.

I was most happy to find them, and will always enjoy the memory.

They look like 2 species to me- the 2 in the middle are muscovy ducks but don't know what the outer 2 are. Great shot.

They must have been the four that thought they could withstand the winter and avoid a long flight south!!! I hope they don't regret it! They sure are cute!

What an incredible photo! Added it to my favourites - I wonder what type(s) of duck they are - I mean, does one type have such a variety of plumage - or are they different forms of the same species - now I am going to have to check out info. to find out - can't duck the issue.....(sorry)

Great find! Really makes you wonder why these four were separated from the rest of the flock, and why they still kept together... are we projecting our human experience and values onto the animals or are animal societies so frightfully similar to ours?
