The Giant Buddha 2

For a long while I was confused by the representations of Buddha. There is the Buddha as seen in India and around Korea and Thailand [photoblog.com] who is thin and rather willowy with distinct hair, and then there is the fat, bald, laughing Buddha such as this one from the Paochueh temple in Taichung.
Described in the Lonely Planet as a Milefo Buddha, Milefo according to Wikipedia [en.wikipedia.org] was a Chinese monk from 10th century Fenghua. `Obviously they're not the same person so perhaps this should be known as the Laughing Budai…
This statue in Taiwan is around 30m high and is painted a bright golden yellow.
You would think that something this large and bright would be easy to find, but, tucked away down the side amongst the trees it took us a while… Perhaps temple fatigue was setting in!
