Taroko Gorge

On the east coast, a couple of hours or so from Taipei by train is one of Taiwan's most popular destinations, Taroko National Park.
Apparently Taroko means “magnificent and beautiful” and the gorge was named by an aboriginal tribesman as he walked through the gorge, finally coming upon the Pacific.
The parts of it that we saw certainly looked beautiful, but we managed to coincide our trip to the east coast with the tailend of Typhoon Krosa and the rain just didn't stop…
If you look really carefully you can see the road winding through on the left hand side.
