Thích Quảng Ðức's car at Thien Mu Pagoda

by Jennifer Patience April. 09, 2008 2018 views

Thich Quang Duc was a Vietnamese buddhist monk who burned himself to death [en.wikipedia.org] in 1963 in protest at the policies and government of South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem.
The car that he drove to Saigon is now housed Thien Mu pagoda, a short distance from the city centre. Hue was a trouble spot during the summer of 1963 when nine monks were killed by police, and Thien Mu pagoda became a focal point for the monks protests and hunger strikes.
