Hoan Kiem Lake [photoblog.com] in Hanoi, meaning Lake of the Restored Sword has a legend which tells that the Vietnamese emperor Le Loi defeated the Chinese with the help of a magical sword, Heaven's Will. After the victory, Le Loi returned to Hanoi and whilst taking a trip on the lake a giant turtle emerged from the water and asked the emperor to return the sword to its Dragon King master. Le Loi realised that to keep the sword would corrupt him and he threw the sword into the water, where the turtle caught it and returned it to its rightful owner, hence the name Lake of the Restored Sword.
