Ninomaru Garden, Kyoto

The Ninomaru garden makes up part of the Nijo Castle grounds. The Ninomaru (Outer Citadel) palace is fascinating as it was where the Shogun lived and so is set up for defense and protection. As you walk around, the corridors snake left and right and the floor is designed to ‘sing like a nightingale’ so the floor squeaks and any would-be intruders trying to sneak in would have to be very stealthy not to alert the bodyguards inside.
This small lake and garden outside was so pretty and in this one photograph alone there seems to be so many types of trees.
