This is my favorite mule barn in the crossroad community of Lathemtown. It makes a beautiful backdrop for a nursery.

Lathemtown, Ga.

We live close to cities and are not far from large grocery stores, but what I consider our immediate community is Lathemtown, midway between Macedonia and Free Home. This is a historic area on Georgia Highway 20 that is deceivingly serene in pictures.

Lathemtown was a thriving farming community at one time.

This area was known for its mule trade and amazingly several of the barns survive.

The landscape here has been changing for several years, and continued growth meant more traffic and plans to widen the highway. This will take out many of these old buildings. I love to look at these and I will miss them.

Standing roadside the traffic is intense. Widening the highway will allow more volume for the trucking industry.

I will enjoy this scenery as long as I can!
